Washing colored clothes in the washing machine: how to protect them and keep them shiny

Colorful garments give personality to our wardrobe: they tell emotions, moods and style. To keep them shiny, soft and fade-free, all it takes is a few steps and the right detergent. In this guide, we take you step by step through the perfect washing of colored, for laundry that stays beautiful over time.

1. Separate to protect

A simple but fundamental gesture: don't mix the colors too different between them. Whites should always stand alone, away from pastels as well. Bright colors (such as yellow, red, orange) can be washed together if they are similar to each other. Dark garments (blue, black, gray), on the other hand, go with similar shades.

Do you have a new garment and don't know if it would sting? Do a separate first wash, or by hand with cold water.

2. Choose the right program

Many washing machines have a cycle designed for colored garments: use it whenever you can. Alternatively, a normal cycle at 30° o 40° is more than sufficient. If fabrics are delicate (lace, viscose, thin cotton), better to opt for the “Delicates” program, which protects fibers and limits spin stress.

Always avoid overly vigorous washing or high temperatures not specified on the label: better to clean gently and steadily.

3. The ideal temperature

Between 20° and 40°: this is the perfect band for washing dyes safely. Low temperatures respect pigments and fabrics, consume less energy, and still provide excellent results if the detergent is specific.

Only in the case of stubborn stains and if the fabric allows it, you can go up to 60°. But in general, the golden rule is: better moderate temperature and appropriate products.

4. 5 golden tips for brightly colored garments

🟡 Separate carefully: white, light, dark and intense never go together.
🟢 Choose a detergent specifically for colored, bleach-free and mild formula.
🔵 Wash inside out: protects prints, lettering and more intense colors.
🟣 Do not overload the washing machine: gives the leaders room to move.
🟠 Avoid soaking and harsh products, which damage the most delicate colors.

5. Watch out for the label (always)

The labels speak for themselves: recommended temperatures, type of cycle, drying or ironing options. Reading them is essential to avoid damaging valuable or more sensitive garments.

If you have doubts, or if the garment is new or delicate, wash it by hand with warm water and a dash of detergent: is the best way to protect it.
